Self-Portraits

Starting off was kind of hard for me. When I heard about this being our final project I had mixed emotions. I was excited because I thought it was going to be really fun to create four images that each had to capture a different part of myself. On the other hand, I was scared because I had no idea what to do or how to do it. I think my rule of thirds picture is the most creative because that idea was something that most wouldn’t do. I actually had taken that sheet to use as a background and I just started messing around with it. It was difficult coming up with ideas. That is always something I have troubles with. I like my self portraits because they are each very different but you can tell that they are related in some way.
In my composition I tried telling my sister how to take my pictures but that didn’t work too well. She would listen but she ended up moving things around here and there. All of my photos were set up. We just tried doing different things using the same ideas. To strengthen my photographs I tried using different colors. I tried being very aware of my surroundings so that I could contrast the values. One thing I should have done better was get rid of dead space. I had to crop my pictures in order to get rid of it if I was more aware of it then I could have eliminated that problem and my pictures could have been better. In my opinion, the strongest composition is in my rule of thirds photo.
I think my personal prop photo was too dull. I think our faces needed more focus. Our features are dark and in that area the picture looks dark as well so I think I definitely could have fixed that. I think overall I did really well. I think that there are a lot of different things that added umph to my photos. I think there is a lot of contrast in my pictures. I have black and white and there are a lot of shades of gray in between. I also think that the expressions were very real. They don’t look fake or forced.
I love how my portraits came out. Each picture is set up differently but you can tell that they all came from me. If I had this project again I would get more into it. I wouldn’t exaggerate but I would just do more things. My favorite shot overall is my prop photo because I super love my boyfriend and the picture came out cute. I really don’t have a least favorite photo. I just have a most favorite of the bunch.
